Who Could Ever Turn You On

Freezerjams is about to turn everyone on to the dance floor friendly beats of Hey Champ. Comin out of the Windy City, Hey Champ has a sound that is heavily influenced by 80s pop. They were just recently signed to Lupe Fiasco's label 1st and 15th Entertainment. I was fortunate enough to see them when I was in Chicago and their live set is full of SO much energy. Oh and by the way, the lead singer Saam shreds on the guitar. The first song I got coming up is from their DJ set and has this awesome whipping sound throughout it. The second song is a remix of their single "Cold Dust Girl". Make sure to keep your ears open for more info on their debut album coming out soon.

Mr. Mau5

Mice don't belong in the kitchen, and especially nowhere near the freezer, but this Mau5 is an exception. We absolutely love Deadmau5 here at Freezer Jams, and we feel that this is the perfect time to give you some Mau5 since he is blessing us with his presence here in FL in November. We got to see Deadmau5 last month at Lollapalooza. He was last to go and last to come off late sunday night, and that's because he is the SHIT. So here is our ode to Mr. Mau5, thank you for stopping off in the sunshine state. Press play, turn the bass up, and try not to jump up and down.

Psych Funk From Around the World

So the other week I finally received my psychedelic funk compilations album from Stones Throw and let me tell ya.... The idea for this album was to showcase the golden years of psych funk which was around 1967 to 1980. The artists that are featured on the album all come from different corners of the world which makes for a great album with a lot of different sounds and instruments.

First on the list is Mehr Pooya from Tehran, Iran. This song features a funky guitar riff throughout it and then breaks down into a crazy drum solo with lyrics in the native language.

Mehr Pooya- Ghabileh-ye Lily (right click & save to download)

Next up coming out of Moscow, Russia is George Garanian with the Melodiya Jazz Ensemble. This jam is just too funky. It keeps the the catchy bass line going and then has this trippy psychedelic sample in the background.

The last gem I'm going to leave you with is coming out of Lagos, Nigeria. Funky track....give it a listen.

To wrap up this post I guess what I was trying to get across is go to your local record shop and do some crate digging in the funk section. Stones Throw was kind enough to do the digging for me in this case. But who knows what you'll find.

Stay Funky

In and Out of Control

I'm hot to trot on the new Raveonettes album, In And Out Of Control. Especially since I just saw them at Lollapalooza last month, which was really good as expected. They did play a couple of their new songs off the album, I think you guys might enjoy some of these hand picked jams though. The first two tracks are off the new album, which comes out 10/6/09. The last gem, however is off their 2007 album Lust Lust Lust. There is just something about old fuzzy distorted garage rock that I love, and then as an added bonus throw a beautiful Danish woman on the mic. Good stuff...

Its' all good

I've been meaning to do a post on my two favorite Brazilians, but the problem was trying to pick the right songs because anything that these guys touch is golden. The more I hear and read from these guys the better they get. They do a lot of live instrumentation, so you got to give them props! But luckily for you The Twelves have dropped a new hour long mix, and I must say it should take care of anything your missing in life. Great mix, awesome remixes and plenty of funk.

Friendly Fires Remix

Yes although that party does look like a good time, freezerjams put on an even bigger event over the weekend. Not only did the beer flow like wine but it also featured a slip n' slide as well as the one and only Wellfed Boy on the decks. Pictures of the event will be posted soon.

Today I have a little treat for you. As you all know from my first post that I am a pretty big fan of the group Friendly Fires. Well it is my great pleasure to give you one of their first remixes. Friendly Fires always does an awesome job of getting you on your feet, putting your big boy clothes on, and getting that strange out. This track is a remix of the band Phoenix's "Fences". If you haven't checked out Phoenix I highly recommend them as well.

Just a Stones Throw Away

So I was going to post about one of my new favorite artist from Stones Throw, but it's hard to write about just one artist from the label. If you have never checked out the label, I suggest you do. Probably one of my favorite record labels because of their knack to seek out really good artist. First off we have Dam-Funk, sort of a rookie at the label, but still highly respected. He brings back the old California funk/groove sound and puts his modern touch on it. Something to get down to, maybe relax on saturday just soaking up life(a tleast thats how it makes me feel).

Dam-Funk -Galactic Funk (right click & save to download)

My second artist from the label is James Pants. He's been around for a while, but I just can't get enough of his album Welcome. I think it is absolutley brilliant and very well put together. Check out this track off the album:

James Pants- Were Through (right click & save to download)

Last but certaintly not least is my favorite artist signed to Stones Throw The Beat Kunducta: Madlib. Absolutly insane samples coming from this man on all of his albums, but actually the song isn't produced by Madlib at all. It was produced by none other than the late great J Dilla. The song come off the Jaylib album, which was a callab between the two. Straight up CLASSIC:

Enjoy!

Let me introduce you to....

Allow me to introduce you to Hemingway. He is a young man hailing from....you guessed it Canada, Toronto to be more specific. It's hard not to acknowledge the amount of talent that is coming out of Canada right now, and Hemingway is a perfect example of it. Yacht Funk is what they refer to this genre of music as, and it's making quite an impression on me atleast because I can't stop dancing when this song comes on. Which is the exact reason why I decided to do this post. So without further ado....

Pelifics- Forever (Hemingway remix) (right click & save to download)
The Virgins- Rich Girls (Hemingway remix) (right click & save to download)

That's right I'm not done with you yet. I have more beautiful music for, so thank me later. He is a group by the name Javelin. Comprised of friends and hailing from Crooklyn(Brooklyn, NY) these guys are really pushing the genre boundary. If i had to attempt to classify this i guess it would be somewhere between Funk/Old School with some california sun. If you can't picture what I'm saying "Vibrationz" will do the rest. They have a couple of live shows in Brooklyn and NYC, so if your anywhere near the city I suggest you do your ears a favor and be there.

The Black Keys Hip-Hop Album?

That's right, you read the title correctly. Exclusive news in the music world. The blues duo known as The Black Keys just announced that they will be releasing a hip-hop album under the name Blakroc. The self titled album is due out November 27th and will be featuring the likes of.....
Mos Def
Q-tip
RZA
Raekwon
Ludacris
Jim Jones
and the late Ol' Dirty Bastard.

Blakroc
will be produced by the duo as well as help from Jim Jones and Damon Dash. I know what your thinking, Jim Jones? The same guy who had ever popular sports anthem "Ballin". Well for sake of The Black Keys I sure hope he's come along after that. But the reputation that The Black Keys have on me, I'm sure this album will be nothing short of spectacular.
The track list is as followed:

1. Coochie
2. On The Vista
3. Hard Times
4. Dollaz & Sense
5. Why Can’t I Forget Him
6. Stay Off The F*%$#n’ Flowers
7. Ain’t Nothing Like You
8. Hope You’re Happy
9. Tellin’ Me Things
10. What You Do To Me
11. Done Did It

Pre-Order Blakroc

This teaser was just released

Here is the first single to be released.

Case of the Monday's

I know, I know I should be shot for saying something like that but Monday's are the worst. Between cramming for exams and anticipating the weekend I find myself grooving to the same song over and over. Beni from Kitsune Records has one of the funkiest songs out right now. If you can't so much but tap your feet to this song then you have no soul. To top off how great the song is, he came out with an equally awesome video. The video features little kids dancing using moves inspired by the late and great King of Pop. Don't be surprised if you see a re-make coming soon staring yours truly.

The best tracks are always on replay

Electric Youth have been out for sometime, so I might have missed it on the exclusiveness. Nonetheless the track "Replay" is still a banger. I don't know what it is about this young Canadian duo, but they get my feet movin. This song was on repeat for quite some time, so I had to show it some love. I haven't seen a lot of other stuff from them as of lately, but I expect great things soon enough.

And to go along with the original here is the remix by Bestrack, who are making quite an impression around the blogosphere. Their new EP Sunset City is already out, and if you haven't heard it yet I suggest you do! The song is a great electro/disco remix that compliments the orignial. Get Funky!

Climb On Board

With this being my first post, I wanted to hit you with a personal favorite right now for ya. Here's the English group Friendly Fires. The picture above (which yours truly took) is from their set at Lollapalooza. Awesome band if your trying to get "the dogs barkin". The song "On Board" from their debut self-titled album offers up a funky bass line and some fresh lyrics that get ya singing along. Only good things are in store for these guys in the future.

First of Many

So here it goes the first post comin fresh out the kitchen. It's more of a "feelin it out" post. Its one of the lesser known Daft Punk songs, but it rocks out no doubt. It was one of those songs that you listened to constantly because it was on the 1997 album Homework, which was ridiculous, and it kinda got lost in the shuffle soon after. So needless to say it was a pleasent surprise when it did come on, so I hope you enjoy!
