It Ain't Cold Enough To Stop Rockin'

Ok, so I'm gunna keep the rock n roll on shuffle because the fact is that this stuff just never gets old. It's rare when you come across a really, truly good soundtrack, and though it has taken a while for me to catch on, I have fallen in love with the Pirate Radio soundtrack. One good thing about music, is when it hits you feel no pain, and Bob Marley could not have said it better. It's just plain good music, but the best part is that it comes free with a pic of miss beautiful swimming in that dirty water! It's 36 track album jam packed full of some of your favorite songs, and I already went ahead and picked a couple of songs I thought you guys might enjoy. Sooo Enjoy and Stay Strong!

David Bowie- Let's Dance

The Hollie- I'm Alive

John Fred and his Playboy Band- Judy in Disguise(w/ Glasses)

Little Wine, maybe a Little Rock...

It's that time of the season folks when we get down on some good 'ol fashioned rock 'n roll. The Freezer is stock full of appetizers, seafood, poultry and what not, but I just found some rock music that has been marinating since April. So since we are all about the business around here, let's get right to it. This salad bowl is sure to spark something, because i don't want you guys to ever forget just good music.

Gimme Um- Break Glass
The Beatles- The Night Before
Revolver-Get Around Town
David Bowie- Queen Bitch

Whats Jamaican?

Formerly known as Poney Poney, Jamaica is the next hottest thing to come out of Paris. Their debut album, No Problem, was produced by Xavier de Rosnay of Justice. Having said that, Jamaica is a grunge rock band with that classic Justice kick drum. I Think I Like U is one of their popular singles that you may know that was released a little bit ago. Catchy lyrics, radical tune. Secrets is one my other favs off of the album...actually the whole album rocks with killer electric riffs and lyrics that make you wanna sing along (even if you don't know them).

Straight from the Motor City

I just got back from a trip to Detroit, MI....and I come bearing gifts! It's something a little different that you would expect from Detroit rock city, but you can still hear the soul of the city throughout the song. The band is Desktop and they have a new EP dropping soon, so in anticipation here's an early appetizer.

PBR Breath

To me, nothing complements rock n' roll better than an ice cold beer. I don't think it gets much classier than good ole fashion PBR. Nothing complements a PBR better than Jacksonville Beaches own, DarkHorse Saloon. Following the footsteps of other local band BLORR, DHS offers the crowd that throbbing, pulsating rock n' roll (as they like to describe it) that gets everybody and their mothers shakin'. With an EP due out soon, DHS just released their first music video that was locally filmed, directed and produced. Be sure to check it out and show the guys some love at their myspace or facebook page.

P.S.-our buddies BLORR have been busy recording as well so make sure to check their new stuff as well. Support these rock n' roll pioneers of Jax Beach.

Newsflash

Just stumbled upon this new band from Milwaukee, Jaill. The discovery of a new artist has to be top 5 best feelings of all time! Am I not right? I felt compelled to immediately do a post because I can't stop playing their song "The Stroller". Apparently they are signed to Sub-Pop and it's a good thing because these guys got a hit on their hands...

This Black Box Ain't On A Plane

This band from Belgium, known as The Black Box Revelation, is just what an indie/garage rock fan needs. BBR comes at a perfect time because the art of wailin' into a microphone while simultaneously playing fuzzy guitars has been lost for the moment. Well thank god for this revelation cause these dudes rock out! Their second album Silver Threats is out on PIAS and doing hardcore damage to all ears. Check out the couple of handpicked treasures that I chose.

Dead Weather on Christmas...How Beautiful!

Sorry I missed ya guys over xmas, I had no quality internet reception. But I do now have the necessary resources, and here is a quick one from The Dead Weather. I love Jack White and I love that he doesn't sing much with this band, and he has a totally sexy lead singer Alison Mosshart.(from The Kills) The Kills were on tour opening for The Raconteurs a year or so back, and Jack White came down with a cold. He invited Alison to sing some of thier songs in place of Jack, and the rest is history. I particularly like these B-sides off thier debut release Horehound. Let me know what your thinking.

Pick up the Phone, It's BB

Since BB kicks off the North American leg of his tour I thought it would be appropriate to give my brother his long overdue post. That's right he is a part of the family, and I'll try not to be too bias, but the man can crank out some great music. Having just got married last month and a baby on the way, Brendan Benson comes to the other side of the pond to remind us of how rock music can still have a personal connection in our everyday lives. His voice is American and his songwriting speaks from the heart, making instant impressions on all of his fans. Having just released his 4th studio album, My Old Familiar Friend, BB continues to evolve as a musician and songwriter. I urge everyone to pick up a copy of the new album, and if you like what you here you can get his earlier album here.(personally I think they are a stable in any music lover's collection) Growing up in Detroit, MI and now living in Nashville, Brendan's music is deeply rooted in the rock city and I think it shows. The first song is a live version of a B-side off his Tiny Spark Single. And the second is a personal favorite of mine off his very first album, but if my memory is correct I don't even think it made the final cut, so it is quite rare. As I said before he has a handful of shows here in the US and if your in the ATL area around Dec. 11th, then I will see you there!

Primo Originals from the O.G.

So if you haven't already heard that DJ Premier has a new mix out featuring all his classic originals, then you are in luck. Similar to the J Dilla Originals this mix is separated into 3 tracks, each 15min mixes of all classic soul/funk and rock. It's even mixed together by the legendary producer/DJ. This is definitely a big pick up for those hip hop headz out there, so I wouldn't sleep on this(if your reading this then you probabley already have). I'll give ya a little taste with the first mix, but if ya like what you hear then leave a comment. And maybe I'll let ya in on the other 2 tracks....
